These images of the salmon returning to Kennedy Creek to spawn speak to me of Thanksgiving in multiple ways. Stu and I visited this place the day after Thanksgiving and I'm thankful for him. The fishery at Kennedy Creek is co-operated with the Squaxin Tribe, which resonates with me on a holiday that memorializes the cooperation between eastern tribes and the first white settlers in what became America. At its most fundamental level though, I'm thankful for the cycle of life and for these particular fish who returned from the sea and sacrificed themselves to bring life not only to their young but to the whole ecosystem. Kennedy Creek in November is sacred space.
Lovely thoughts and the pictures take me back to Kennedy Creek, where we have gone in November the past couple of years.
